In Pakistan child population is 45% with inadequate primary secondary and tertiary care facilities. In this backdrop the Child Aid Association was founded in 1979 for helping the under privileged children who failed to get proper treatment at the hospital under National Institute of Child Health (NICH)Karachi, due to shortage of funds.
The association is the first hospital friendly organization of Pakistan and is duly registered with the Ministry of Social Welfare government of Sindh. Office of the association is located at the ground floor of NICH Karachi. Working of the association is managed by a duly elected executive committee by the members. Child Association in 1999 established the first Pediatric Oncology Unit of Pakistan at NICH for the treatment of poor children.
Later on modern diagnostic facilities for cancer of Cytogenetics and molecular laboratories were set up also at NICH with the cooperation of Association of Physicians of North America of Pakistani origin (APPNA), Rotary International and Bait-ul-mal Pakistan.
In 2007 facility for formulation of total par-antral nutrition was also set up with donation from Infaq foundation.
Facilities for treatment of cancer patients are totally free. The Oncology units with the above motioned labs are run by the Child Aid Association from its own resources.
